Salesian Samoan Choir
About 15 youth from Fr Mika Leilua's Salesian parish
in Moamoa were hosted by Salesian Samoan families around Melbourne for about
one and a half weeks, prior to their journey to Sydney for World Youth Day.
In appreciation for this hospitality, the Moamoa families have invited our
choir to be their guests in Moamoa. Well, it's not as easy as a bus trip!
There is much organising and fundraising as we would like to send about 30
members over! Major fundraising efforts have includedsiva dance and a
raffle.
As a choir, we sing at Clifton Hill mass each third Sunday of the month. In
the hall, after Mass we pray the rosary, hold our meeting, then enjoy
fellowship over lunch. Rehearsal is here at St John's each 1st and 3rd
friday. We sang at the diocesan Samoan Mass for tsunami victims.
Meetings focus on a variety of
things such as: how to improve the choir, our Salesian relationship with the
diocese of Melbourne, preparing Samoan and western dances for June 1
Independence Day and for our trip to Moamoa, and involving the youth.
